The German States - Coinage to 1871

Welcome to my site devoted to coins of the German States. I originally thought I would just add a few coins to complement my primary collection of British Coins with a few of the Hanoverian pieces by the various King Georges of England (House of Hannover).

Then I found that the 19th C. proof minors were both rare and inexpensive, then some of the early talers looked very interesting...and I guess you know how it goes from there.

The history of the German states is long, rich, and extremely complicated. The various states have provided the world with the Saxons, the Emperors of the Holy Roman Empire, and the Hannoverian Kings of England beginning with King George I. I have combined many of the smaller states into single entries for simplification. In many cases a single state would be divided among several different sons on the death of a ruler, this leads to many cases of smaller states coming into being, and then just as quickly disappearing or recombining with a different state.

9/12/2017 - I've been away for a while, went into retirement and took a break. During this period I made the decision to change the focus of the collection and have sold/traded a large number of the more modern and minor pieces and am now concentrating on Talers and rare pieces.

Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have questions or comments, I don't have all the answers, but I may be able to point you in the right direction. I also have two other sites for my other coin collections:

British Coins
